In our daily lessons, we receive a variety of inquiries such as "I just can't remember English words and phrases," and "I want to be able to speak English sentences I see with ease."

そこで、今回はどの様に英単語・フレーズ・英文をスムーズに覚えられるかというテーマでお話ししていきたいと思います。

So this time, we would like to talk about how to remember English words, phrases, and sentences smoothly.

結論から申し上げますと、最もお勧めなのは「読みながら書く方法」です。

As a conclusion, the most recommended method is "reading and writing."

「読みながら書く方法をお勧めする理由」は、多くの刺激を使うことによって記憶に残りやすいためです。

The reason why we recommend reading and writing is that it is easier to remember by using a lot of stimuli.

スクールでも、英文の暗唱をする課題を出す時に「読みながら書くのが良いですよ」とお話ししています。

In our school, when we give students assignments to recite English sentences, we tell them, "It is good to write while reading."

読むだけでも覚えられるのでは？と考える方も少なくないと思いますが、実は読むだけだと「スペルミスに気づきにくい」という欠点があります。

Many people may think, "Isn't it possible to memorize just by reading?"  However, in fact, reading alone has the disadvantage that it is difficult to notice spelling mistakes.

また、読むだけ、書くだけ、とそれぞれの作業を切り離してしまうと、「何となく勉強をした気になってしまう」というリスクを孕んでいます。

In addition, if you separate the tasks of reading and writing, you run the risk of "feeling like you have somehow studied."

小学校の頃にみなさんがやっていた「漢字の書き取り」や「本読み」の宿題を思い出すと、まさにこの「勉強をしたつもり」という感覚が分かるのではないでしょうか？

If you think back to your elementary school days when you did homework such as "dictating kanji characters" or "reading books," you may recognize this feeling of "feeling like you have studied."

では、「読みながら書く」方法はどうでしょう。

So what about the "reading and writing" method? 

「目で英文を見る」「英文を手で書く」「英文を発声する」という３つの刺激が組み合わさっています。

This method combines the three stimuli of "looking at the English text with your eyes," "writing the English text with your hands," and "speaking the English text."

この方法は「頭に残りやすい」というところがメリットです。（※１回のみなら反復する事がとても重要です）

The advantage of this method is that it is easy to retain in the mind. (*It is very important to repeat the lesson not only once, but also repeatedly.) 

さらに言えば、「書くことで後ほど復習をし易くなる」というメリットもあります。

Furthermore, the advantage is that "writing makes it easier to review later."

そして、欲を言えば、発声した英文を自分のスマホで録音した上で、ネイティブスピーカーにチェックしてもらえば、「自分の発話した英語の改善点」が分かり、正確な発音を会得する事が可能です。

We also recommend that you record your speech with your smartphone and have it checked by a native English speaker so that you can see what you need to improve on and learn accurate pronunciation.
